William won the election to represent District 9 on Charleston City Council in November 2023. He serves on the Public Safety, Real Estate, Human Resources, Business License, and Special Facilities committees of Charleston City Council.

William prides himself as a lifelong resident of and small business owner in West Ashley. He graduated from Porter-Gaud School in 2002, from Emory University in 2005, and from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2010.

After graduating from law school, William worked as a staff attorney for the South Carolina Court of Appeals and as a law clerk for the Honorable R. Bryan Harwell, a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. In his private practice, William represents people and businesses in a variety of personal injury, business, and property matters. Over his legal career, he handled cases involving negligence, contract disputes, education policy, alcohol- and trucking-related incidents, professional malpractice, civil rights violations, consumer protection claims, and disputes arising from the construction, employment, and landlord/tenant contexts. William also brings experience handling national securities fraud and consumer class actions; commercial litigation; and qui tam and other whistleblower actions.

William’s proudest achievements include his Eagle Scout rank at Troop 79, his “Best and Brightest” award from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, his “Next Generation Leader” designation by the American Constitution Society, and his service as an editor on the South Carolina Law Review.

William maintains membership in the South Carolina Bar, the Charleston County Bar, the South Carolina Association for Justice, and the American Constitution Society. His court admissions include the United States Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Circuits, as well as the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.

William convinced his wife, Kristen, to settle in West Ashley, where they raise their two sons, Alex and Nick.
